Bamfield attracts an adventurous traveller - one willing to turn over a few stones to get the full experience of this unique and out-of-the-way community. Activities in the area are mostly out of doors and are only limited by the seasons and your imagination. Whether foraging for wild mushrooms and berries, salmon fishing, hiking, kayaking, scuba diving, cycling, whale watching, beachcombing, bird watching, or taking a leisurely stroll along the waterfront boardwalk, you will find something for every member of your family.
Getting here is an experience in itself. Although the majority of our visitors choose to drive the gravel roads from Duncan or Port Alberni and meander through active logging country, many visitors arrive in this great little community on foot from Port Renfrew via the West Coast Trail. Others come by bicycle, float plane, or working coastal freighter from Ucluelet and Port Alberni.
Bamfield is well situated for hiking the West Coast Trail and shorter walks such as Brady’s Beach or a day trip to Pachena Lighthouse. Or, if you want to go even further, a day trek to Tapaltos and Keeha Beaches, or Cape Beale Lighthouse offers a challenge. Logging roads also offer mountain bike enthusiasts plenty of room to travel. You will not find a more restful community for accommodation. Choose between resorts, lodges, vacation suites and bed & breakfast establishments. Bamfield will always make you feel welcome. Wander the historic ‘Boardwalk’ along the picturesque waterfront, stop for an espresso and take in the daily activity in the harbour…Bamfield’s “Main Street”. Visit local artists in their galleries on the way to beautiful Brady’s Beach on Bamfield’s west side. Our village, with all it’s maritime charm, is truly the “heart” of Barkley Sound, a pristine west coast vacation destination off the beaten track.
